Moses was eighty years old when he led the Israelites out of Egypt. Before that, he had spent forty years in the desert of Midian, fleeing from Pharaoh’s wrath after killing an Egyptian taskmaster. During that time, God appeared to him in a burning bush and called him to return to Egypt and free his people from slavery.
