Infield Fly Rule: Preventing Outfielders From Dropping Fly Balls

Infield fly rule prohibits infielders from intentionally dropping a catchable pop-up fly ball to force a batter out in order to prevent a double play. Enforced to protect runners on base from being forced out on a catchable fly ball, the rule states that the umpire shall declare the batter out if, in their judgment, the fly ball could have been caught by an infielder with ordinary effort.
