Hydrofluoric acid (HF) is classified as a weak acid due to its relatively low acid dissociation constant (Ka). Ka values measure the strength of acids, with strong acids having high Ka values and weak acids having low Ka values. HF’s Ka value is much lower than that of strong acids like hydrochloric acid (HCl) or sulfuric acid (H2SO4). This means that HF does not completely dissociate in water, resulting in a lower concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) and a higher pH compared to strong acids.
