Drag Force: Impact On Vehicle Acceleration

As a vehicle’s speed increases, the opposing force of drag becomes more significant. Drag is proportional to the square of the speed, meaning it grows rapidly with increased velocity. According to Newton’s Second Law (F = ma), the force needed to accelerate the car (F) remains constant. However, the increased drag force (ma) reduces the net force available for acceleration, causing the acceleration to decrease as the speed increases.
